  • Whenever you ride, even during low-speed practice sessions, get into the habit of wearing appropriate motorcycle-riding apparel/safety gear. This includes a helmet, eye protection, gloves, long sleeved jacket, heavy pants and sturdy footwear…
  • Practice in a wide-open, area such as an empty parking lot free of obstacles, vehicles and pedestrians...
  • First familiarize yourself with the location of the bike's hand and foot controls you'll use to operate the brakes, clutch and accelerator and to shift gears...

    * Shift into first gear and practice partially engaging (letting out) the clutch without stalling the engine…

    * Engage the clutch entirely, roll forward a few yards, disengage the clutch, apply the brakes and stop. Repeat five or six times…

    * Get rolling, accelerate in first gear, travel for 50 yards and stop. Repeat five or six times...
